Within the alternative rock genre the general conventions for clothing is neutral colours as well as a casual and almost carefree style, this is to convey to the audience a generally relaxed attitude as the band or artists are focused on the music so much that they don't want to detract the attention from that.
Examples of artists and bands within the alternative rock genre are; Imagine dragons, Fall out Boy, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Linkin Park and Twenty One Pilots. All of these bands despite the lack of popularity and publicity within this genre now are some of the best and most recognised bands in the world which shows a rise in the amount of people beginning to like this genre of music.

Alternative rock is still growing today and now the genre has begun to spread across to places like America and Europe, examples of this are Fall out Boy and Imagine Dragons as these American bands have become some of the most popular alternative rock bands in the world. The genre as a whole is quite unique as in other genres of music for example Pop, R&B and dance are all becoming orientated around electronic music and DJ’s creating a mix to a popular song. However in Alternative rock the main aim for the band is to create an amazing blend between the vocals, bass, guitar and drums which sounds completely natural and not made up. Although this is mainly the case there are some examples such as Tiptoe by Imagine dragons and Radioactive which both add in some sort of techno element to enhance the sounds used already and the song we have chosen consists of elements of electronic as well as the alternative rock and we feel that this mix between the two really complement each other really well.

Alternative rock is a genre of rock music that broke out in the 80’s and soon became widely popular in the 90’s and now the 00’s. In this situation the word “Alternative” depicts the difference from the conventional and stereotypical nature of rock. The actual term was originally supposed to reflect a generation of musicians who were collectively brought together by their love of music.
What is alternative rock?
Alternative rock is a generalised term which entails music which is completely different in terms of its sound, regional roots and the social background. By the end of the 80’s, through the use of music magazines, college radio and word of mouth the diversity as well as the number of alternative rock styles has greatly increased resulting in new subgenres such as; gothic rock, indie rock, pop rock and alternative hip hop. Despite their popularity increasing most alternative bands’ commercial success was very limited in comparison to other genres and specifically genres of pop and rock
