Released in 1987 the Tongue pictured on the album became very iconic to the band as it soon developed into the brand logo we see today. Furthermore the band aided the designers in the construction of the logo and therefore it helps to convey their tastes and general style to the audience. The contrast between the bright red and white pictured within the album cover draws the attention of the consumer to the album as both colours stand out significantly as a result of their disparity. The fact that the logo is in a cartoon style makes the whole album that much more recognisable as there is nothing which is similar to it and therefore when people witness the logo because of its originality it tends to stick in their minds a lot more. The logo itself has resulted in the creation of a brand image for The Rolling Stones as due to the recognition it got from consumers it has meant that it can be used for merchandise such as T-shirts and bags which highlights the overall iconic nature of the album. Finally the way the words are positioned make it seem as if they are actually being spoken which is a very clever and original design which during the period it was released would have really excited people that an album could be created in such an artistic fashion.
Released in 1969 the album Abbey Road, released by The Beatles still to this day is an incredibly iconic album as the photo pictured on the cover has attracted so much attention from fans as for years since people have wanted to be shown photographed in the same position crossing the road. This is partly due to the fact that The Beatles were such a famous and popular band and therefore to be able to walk in the footsteps of your idols was such an appeal to fans. Another reason was that there was mystery surrounding the rumoured death of Paul McCartney back in 1966 and therefore once the album was released in 1969 and he was depicted barefoot it sparked debate that this may have implied and almost made fun of the rumours he was dead as he may have been shown ready to be buried barefoot. Moreover the other band members clothing also implied various things as for example Ringo was seen in all black which is stereo-typically for funerals which links back to McCartney's supposed death. However John Lennon wore all white which could symbolise heaven and passing on which links back again to the whole mystery surrounding them and still to this day the mystery and the fact that people can walk in The Beatles footsteps means that this album will forever be iconic.
Released in 1973, The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd reached the top of the charts for an astonishing 741 weeks meaning that it became so recognisable by fans and people everywhere. Also the originality of the design enhances its appeal to consumers as there was no other album presented in such an artistic and imaginative fashion. Another way this album became iconic was because of the simplistic contrast between both the white and black and the spectrum of rainbow colours as it would immediately grab peoples attentions and hence enhancing the recognition it would receive. Finally because the image because so well recognised it meant that a brand was created and therefore merchandise was made to sell as people were so familiar with the album cover and this highlights how iconic this album is.
Released in 1991, the album Nevermind, by Nirvana is a very simplistic cover however it depicts a very striking image of an exposed baby and this level of exposure resulted in people being so shocked by the image they could immediately recognise it. Furthermore the implicit, symbolic and deeper meaning of the image presents to the consumer the message of trying to get money from a young age and this prominent image will increase the recognition of the album cover gained. Due to the fact that the main image grasps people's attention and remains prominent in their mind and therefore aids the recognition of the album resulting in it reaching a much more well known and iconic status.

Released in 1987, the album, Bad by Michael Jackson was a hugely successful album and followed on from the sensational and incredibly famous album Thriller. Due to the success of the album prior to Bad, Michael Jackson's fan base grew massively which meant when Bad was released people were so excited for it and knew Jackson so well. Another contributing factor for its iconic status was that the amazing track list resulted in it being so well loved and listened to so many times. The red spray painted text, Bad is simple yet effective as it presents the roughness which is highlighted throughout the music within the album. The image of Michael Jackson on the front cover is the focal point and due to his huge status he was easily recognised and hence people would know the album straight away. Finally the fact that his name is on the side of the album and not even horizontal depicts how due to his star status was able to be recognised immediately. This is therefore why Bad was and always will be such an iconic album cover.
