This image was taken from the song, "Gold" by Imagine Dragons and the feature I like about this image is firstly the darkness portrayed by the silhouetted band members as this depicts an almost mysterious nature which relates very much to my chosen genre of Alternative rock. I also really liked the random nature of the lighting as it gave a sense of anticipation and I would therefore like to possibly begin the music video with this to really emphasise the alternative rock nature of the video.

The image above is the second feature I found that I feel would enhance the appeal of the video in terms of my target audience due to the fact that the smoke links very much to the dark and gloomy nature of alternative rock and it is present that there is some form of fog or mist within many other alternative rock videos such as “Gold” and this would therefore help to make the video much more authentic.

This next feature was taken from an Imagine Dragons performance and it depicts once more the dark and almost silhouetted figure which helps to link the video into the genre of alternative rock and this is something I would therefore like to incorporate into my video as the dark mist used will help to make the video much more authentic.

Here is another example of an Imagine Dragons performance and once more there is an example of darkness which therefore links to the genre of Alternative rock however in this example it is portrayed from an alternative view due to the fact that despite the led singer still being silhouetted all the lights are pointed towards the same point and the way they all cross each other I feel would enhance greatly the realism of the video and it would add some extra quality to the finished product.

This video really influenced me when researching into music videos and what one consists of. Baring in mind I am doing an Alternative rock video, this video reflects that massively firstly due to the fact that the darkness in the entire video links very much into the alternative rock genre and this would therefore be something that I would look to put forward in the construction of our music video. Another reason why I felt this video was influential was because of the effects used as shown above so that the band members were duplicated in another colour. I like this effect as it emphasises the movements and the actions by the band members and along with the contrast of the dark and red background I feel that this would link in very well with our chosen genre in creating an authentic looking music video.

Here is another example of a video which I really liked. I feel it has influenced my look on music videos and will benefit me during the construction process, firstly due to the fact that throughout the video there are many examples of slow-motions which links very much into the conventions of Alternative rock music video as these are prominent in order to emphasise the actions of the band and actors. Another reason why I liked this video was because of the narrative and how it had an inner meaning and I could therefore try to incorporate a deeper meaning to the video as this would link very much into the genre of alternative rock as it is very much about the music.

Music Video Influences

While looking for a possible song choice I came across many editing tecniques, lighting styles and props that I felt would massively develop and improve the ideas I already had in order to be able to enhance the quality and the overall realism of the music video. Furthermore below is a collection of both videos and images of styles and features that have influenced me in my research and planning section of this project.

The final influential video I found was called "It's Time" which is performed by Imagine Dragons. I particularly like this video firstly due to the fact that throughout the whole video a dark and gloomy setting is used, which relates very much to the genre of alternative rock and I would therefore look to use darker settings when creating my own video. Furthermore I liked the fact that during portions of the video a black and white filter was used which links back to the darkness pictured within the genre of Alternative rock.
