Final Cut Construction

The main tool we used was the arrow tool as this allowed us to be able to insert all of the clips into the frame and it gave us the capability to be able too move clips around once in the frame so that they would all be in sync with the music.

The next thing we did was find and add the MTV intro advert so that it would make our video seem much more authentic. We then added the actual  MTV logo in the top left hand corner so that once again we could make the video seem much more realistic.

We then added the Title Sequence which showed the name of the band and the track to once again enhance the realism of the video. At the end of the title sequence we used a Slide transition as we felt that this would look much more professional as opposed to it just cutting away.

After that we then added the guitar shots seen at the start of the video ensuring that they were in sync with the audio. We did this by using the mark in and mark out tool to select the part of the clip we wanted and then once it was in place we used the razor tool to make sure that it was the desired length.

Just before the singing starts we see a beat of the drum and for this we used a cross dissolve as we felt that it gave a professional feel too it and helped to tie in with the dark nature of Alternative Rock.

Then we added the narrative intro and the establishing shots of the band. We did this by placing the footage onto the stage and then using the razor tool again to cut it down so that it was the right length. In relation to the narrative we cut it into pieces and removed the linking parts so that we could show a lapse in time between shots.

Then we began  to follow the storyboard in terms of shots and the placement of shots but despite having the storyboard there to give us a rough guide on shot placement we also used our imagination when arranging the shots as after doing the rough cut and gaining the feedback we had a pretty good understanding on what we needed to improve and what would look better after seeing the rough cut finished.

After this we then continued to add most of the shots in ensuring that we was using a range of shots and all band members were gaining suitable screen time as this was a main convention of the genre. We did this by using the arrow tool as well as the razor tool to make the shots the right lengths and also the mark in and mark out tool so that we could get the exact clip that we needed.

Then once all the shots were added in we added the fade to black effect right at the end to coincide with the darkening of the set and therefore the conventions of the genre. We thought that this gave a really professional ending to the video and made it seem much more authentic as a result.

Once that was done we then exported and then uploaded it onto Youtube and that was the video finished.

After all the shots were in place and the video fitted well we then went back and altered all of the band performance clips. We made the clips black and white by going into 'Effects', 'Image Control' and then 'Black and White'. Then we played around with the settings until we got the exact look we wanted. We left the narrative in colour as we felt that it gave a good contrast to the black and white which related very well to the dark conventions of our genre.
